STEVE HINDMAN
In 2002 while teaching I became interested in Celtic
interlacing and how I could apply the techniques in
my own abstract work. Through much
experimentation I produced something fresh new
and original.
I have been excited by the power of color. Abstract
art which connects, can help the viewer gain a new
language of images, enabling him to read artworks
by understanding interesting relationships of
movement, space, texture, color and design.
My work is an attempt to give form to an inner
creative impulse, to impart a sense of
discovery,wonder, experimentation and meditation.
My technique always begins by painting layers of
transparent and opaque acrylic stains creating an
ambiguous background. I overlay an interwoven,
double knotwork pattern in fine gold irridescent
acrylic paint. Each individual piece invites the
viewer to explore. I present a new vision to an
ancient Celtic tradition creating attention getting
artworks which are a manifestation of feeling,
creativity, and technical skill applied to the art of
my ancestors.
I thoroughly enjoy working in this manner and hope
to inspire others to be interested in the work.
